Shirley P..... you're an..... EQUINE ANGEL!!!!!!

Once again the lives of "6 horses" has been saved by Shirley P. Three feral mares were saved from a feed lot, they were heavey in foal, very under weight, & wild as can be! Shirley got them placed in a safe foster home until they had their babies, & the babes were old enough to be weaned. That all came to be sometime last week. The wild mares were all placed in sanctuaries where they will be able to live their lives out, just being horses, & the babies came to Safe Haven. The lightest colored baby is Reno, he's a boy, the one w/ the blaze is Dreamer, & the one w/ the circle is Cheyanne, they're girls. Our farrier Cody, has already done Reno & Dreamer's feet ( that was a rodeo) little Cheyanne didn't need hers done yet! Cheyanne is the most scared of the 3, it takes awhile to "catch" her But once you do she is so sweet! She actually likes to be touched & scratched, & she will snuggle with you & smell you :) Reno is very people friendly, & will come to the fence for lovin's, Dreamer is still a little stand offish but is sweet & is getting closer to the fence every day!
I'd like to THANK, Shirley & her support groups for once again working their "magic" for these beautiful creatures!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALL!!!!!! Safe Haven Horses Rescue has received quite a few horses from Shirley, & we would like for you all to know that......we feel it a GREAT HONOR that Shirley places horses at our facility. It takes a village to save these horses & we are proud to be in the loop! Bye for now, Linda C.

Wolfie meets Dr. Gray

Wolfie is a new guy @ Safe Haven. His name is Wolfgang, so we call him Wolfie for short. He is a wonderful old guy, & his owner was very heart broken to have to place him w/ Safe Haven, but she is so very grateful that we were able to help Wolfie & her other 2 horses. Shelby has had Wolfie for a long time & she did hunter jumper on him, back in the day. She saved all their winnings & that is what put her thru college!!!! That's a WOW isn't it?
Linda R. Tracey,& Bonnie, took Wolfie to have his teeth floated, & Dr. Gray had to pull 3 of his teeth & he had a very big abcess........so as you can see by the pics, Wolfie was VERY groggie!Tracey got worried that he'd fall down so she gave him some x-tra support! Wolfie is back at Safe Haven & is strickly on "mush" & antibiotics so his abcess will heal this week. He is luvin' that mush very much! We will post more pics of him in the future.......front shots! so you all can see his handsome face!!!! Bye for now, Linda C.

Ginger - a kill pen rescue, saved by Shirley & "crew"

Safe Haven's volunteer Tracey, who is quite the Appy gal, is in the pen w/ Ginger, coaxing her to take a cookie from her hand. Tracey has been taking care of Ginger & doing what she can to gain her confidence. She is not halter broke!!!! Marlene & Steve had quite the time getting her to transfer from Marlene's trailer to Steve's!!! Ginger did not want to leave the mares she had been with, & that's when they found out she wasn't even halter broke......so, necessity, being the mother of invention.......Marlene & Steve.....backed their trailers up to each other & finally got Ginger to transfer to Steve's!!!!!!! Needless to say they were both outraged at the fact no one ever did any type of training on this mare, just used her to make more babies :( What a shame it is that she has missed out on the joy of a relationship with a "kind" human. That will all changed now that she is at Safe Haven :) Our Tracey has adopted an Appy that came in on another "rescue" from Shirley a few months back, her name is Bailey. Tracey has worked really hard at bringing her up to be a good riding companion, & has a done a wonderful job w/ Bailey. I'd like to send out a huge THANK YOU to Shirley & her "crew" for all the fundraising & placing & delivering of all the ones they have saved from slaughter! The "crew" is all the helpful horsey lovin' people who donated to the cause, bumped for the cause, challenge each other for the cause, & finally saved all these beautiful creatures. YOU ALL "ROCK" Thanks for all that you all do!!!!!!!! Bye for now, Linda C.

WOW! When you look at Onyx's before pic, it just blows you away to see his after pic!!! I think we have had Onyx for about two years now.........He has grown quite a bit since his "after" pic.Onyx has been adopted by Dave, & that is who is with him in the after pic. Onyx was saved from SLAUGHTER.......right out of the "kill pens" at the feedlot in Fallon NV. Shirley P. has been saving horses right & left these days, & we are scheduled to get in an Appy mare that is PG. Shirley saved all 26 of the horses that were @ the killpens so WHOOOOO HOOOOOO to all the contributors that helped her save this group of mares & foals.....God Bless yas....!!!!!
Will keep you posted on the mare :)

Mocha's been to the beauty shop!

Our Mocha just doesn't cooperate when there is a camera involved!!!!!!! This pic does show her cute little curly forelock so I thought I would include this one too! She is such a character....when you are filling her water barrel she will take the hose & beg to be rinsed off, & she will turn so you can get all of her!
Mocha is kind of camera shy & she just wouldn't look this way! for her pictures......:/ Look how shiny she is! Bonnie gave her a bath. Mocha is in her 30's & has an old knee injury has you can see in this pic of the bump on her left knee. She's an oldie but a goodie!

Here's Mocha after she had a body clip! Mocha was a fuzzy fuzzy girl, & now she will be ever so much cooler. She still loves to be rinsed off w/ the hose tho!

Bye for now,

Welcome Baby Boy!!!!!!

How cute is this little guy? Look how high he can pick up his leg!!!!! He is only hours old here, so some parts are a little loose!!!!! Dr. Marta said nothing to worry about, he will tighten up in the next few days!!!!!!
The new baby boy looks like he is having trouble controling those back legs!!!!!!!! What a cutie!

Safe Haven's newest Baby Boy was born, yesterday, July 12th 2009, even tho they said the "due" date was the 15th!!!! Mama Mia, his Mom, is reported to be welsh & canadian sport horse cross, & the "Dad" is a big black & white arabian......go figure.......we have a "brown baby"!!!!!!! He's a very little baby @ the moment & it will be lot's of fun watching him grow!!!!! Our 3 month old filly, Lizzie Anne, looks like a "draft baby" next to this little guy! we'll post updated pics of her soon.

Cinnamon & Panda

Here is a picture of two Mammoth donkeys that were at Safe Haven for A DAY!!! Their Mom & their roomy's were very lonely without them. Lori said that the water buffalo, the zebra, & the camels were constantly "calling" for these two beauties.......so she came back & took them home! Now she reports, that "all is well" in their little part of this world!!!!!
