ETHEL!...... not a horse, But..... so cute!!!

Ethel! Is that a new wig??? At feeding time Ethel & Fred are always ready! Ethel starts, the cutest little 'squeal' as soon as she sees the Zoom-Zoom (feeding cart) start up their way!! & they come a runnin' to the front of the pen that they share with the miniature horse Gambie! She was just so darn cute w/ her 'rice straw' wig I had to share this w/ you all. Ya just never know what you'll see, & how cute it will be, when you're helping out at Safe Haven Horse Rescue!!!
We have a number of other residents, that live at Safe Haven, that are not horses. We have the two pot belly pigs; Ethel & Fred, 3 cows; Sammy, Bessie, & Snickers, 2 llamas; Petey, & Betty, a bird aviary w/ finches, love birds, & parakeets,& 2 barn cats; Grayson & KittyKitty. Linda Richards, likes to have the other animals for the little kids that come to Safe Haven, to give them a variety of experiences w/ all kinds of animals. Safe Haven also has 4 dogs, Buddy (pound puppy), Maggie May (Border Collie) Rusty, (Australian Shepherd cross) & Nicky (mini Ausie cross), the dogs stay up by the house, but help us feed, at night. Over the years Linda R. has found homes for over 75 dogs! even tho we are a horse rescue!!!! She will help Any Animal in Need!
Well, it's SATURDAY.....yeah.....that's a big day out at Safe Haven! Riding lessons, pen cleaning, horse grooming, lot's of activities going on..........Hope To See You There!!!!
Bye for now,

Owen & Katrina, horses from Glenn Cty Animal Control!

This is our pretty little Katrina! She is about 150lbs or so under weight, But not for long!!! Linda R. estimates her to be in her 20's or so. I will take a pic of the other side of her nose as it is very cute!! I'm sure she will be a popular one with the kids. We will let her settle in & then see what she knows or doesn't know. This handsome guy is 'Owen' or as his papers call him Power Me to Glory! Wonder how they came up w/ Owen? Anyway, he is underweight also & could use a good 150lbs too! Poor Owen also has a 'bowed tendon' on his right front leg, so we are treating that w/ liniment, & wraps.
He's just so darn cute I had to put his handsome face in twice!!!!

Now here's a real close up!!! Owen is so friendly that one must take his picture quickly!! LOL! Awh..look at those eyes!!! I really like him!! He's BIG, but a gentle good boy!

These two horse were brought to Safe Haven Horse Rescue from the Glenn County Animal Control, they were getting ready to seize these two, when the owners signed them both over. The GCAC had received quite a few calls about someone riding a skinny T/B up & down the road, so they investigated, & decided that a better place for them was needed.

Safe Haven Horse Rescue has helped the Animal Controls out when ever they ask....we have received horses from as far away as Riverside. We think it very important to 'keep' spaces open for the animal controls. I will gather pics of all the horses from over the years, that have come in from the animal controls & will put them all on here! It will be very interesting!
Bye for now,
Linda C.

Emaciated Mare, Delta Dawn, 2nd Weigh-In!!!!

Delta Dawn!! Emaciated Mare! brought to Safe Haven Horse Rescue on Sept. 16, '09, has a weigh in on Oct. 14, '09!!! Delta Dawn loves to roam around 'the breeze way' & love, love, loves all the
attention she gets from the volunteers & the visitors!!! Delta Dawn is getting 'nice' scratches & pets from Chris, & then she gets 'weighed' by Linda Richards, with some help from dedicated volunteer, Debbie.

The weight tape shows that Delta Dawn is now up to 835 pounds!!!! that's along way from the 700 she came in as!!! You can see Delta Dawn's right side of her body as it is now, & then a pic of her body on 9/17/09. She still has a ways to go but, by golly she's working on it! The "tea cup syndrome" is starting to go away.

She looks soooooooo.much better!!!

Another comparison of Delta Dawn's.............'so far'... pics! The progress of this beautiful Mare is very evident in these pics..she now has; some...curves...instead points.........on her body! We still have a ways to go on this courageous "mare w/ a heart of a stallion" She is willing, & Safe Haven Horse Rescue is willing to help her along in her quest for health!

Delta Dawn has a mischievous side to her!!! Here's the fun we had with her on Sat. This is what happened; The 'breeze way' gate was open; Delta Dawn became focused on that fact; she carefully put one hoof in front of the other; when she was clear of the gate; she made BEELINE for the barn! Went straight to the feed barrel w/ the main mush ingredient & went to work trying to open it!!! she was a rockin' & a rollin' that barrel & would succeeded in opening it, if Linda R. would not have stepped in!!!!

Debbie was watching her & was very impressed with the strength she showed trying to get the lid off the alfalfa pellet barrel!! Linda R. shooed her away. & in her haste, she knocked over the trash can, trotted a few more steps, & then turned around to say; "Did I do that?"

Delta Dawn is so funny! & smart.....no one has ever showed her which barrel has her main mush ingredient in it.........but she must have been keeping mental notes as she watches us fix every body's mush each day..........as she went right to that barrel, ignoring all the other goodies the barn has to offer!!!

We at, Safe Haven Horse Rescue, would like to say; Thank You! to all the wonderful people who have helped us to take care of Delta Dawn. We muchly appreciate the support you have sent to Safe Haven & to Delta Dawn!! YOU ALL ROCK!!!
Bye for now,
Linda C.
