Sunday, @ Safe Haven, riding the 'newbies'

Dolly, is becoming quite the hit out at Safe Haven Horse Rescue!!!! Tracey is leading Dolly around the arena, while her Grand Daughter, Dakota, has a ride!
Then, it was Alex's turn to ride Dolly! They did find out that, Dolly is NOT fond of being rode double!!! She actually crow hopped!!! Everyone is riding her bareback, as I'm not sure we have a saddle to fit her!!! I'll get back to you on that!
Here we have Kayla riding the new guy Blaze, & her friend is taking a turn on Dolly! Dolly is such a good girl! Kayla had some problems at the hitching post w/ Blaze, but Bonnie & Tracey straightened him right up!!!! (nicely of course) I think Blaze is very cute too! I think his name should be Roany or something other than Blaze! but we'll see!
Tomorrow is SATURDAY!!!! NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED TO COME VISIT THE HORSES ON SATURDAYS!!!!! NO ADMISSION FEE EITHER! ALL THO, CARROTS & APPLES ARE ALWAYS A WELCOME SIGHT!!! Hope to see you tomorrow ") 3950 W. Anderson Dr. Cottonwood, CA. 96022

An Up-date from Louie's adopted FAMILY!

Hi there! Here is another Louie update. He is doing great- he has had a lot of fun this summer with horse camp and trail-riding and last weekend Emma showed him in Halter and Showmanship at our county fair - see attached photos of being in the show arena and relaxing later. Because Louie is so cute and personable and also because a lot of horse people knew about Emma loosing Gamil in May, we got to talk to a lot of people and tell them about your wonderful rescue organization! Over the summer we have also gotten to know Louie better: We found out that he LOVES soda - but don't worry, we are not indulging this particular habit. He LOVED being at the fair around all the people and horses and going-ons. I doubt he got much sleep during the 5 days he was there - he was so in to everything.
In other news: he hasn't gained weight as I had hoped so he got his teeth floated (badly needed according to vet) and two infected teeth pulled. The vet said he should be able to chew a lot better and start gaining weight more rapidly. He'll get new shoes next week. And in September he and Emma will be old enough to join the horse chapter of 4H - something we are really looking forward to - we met all the kids and horses from our local chapter at the fair.
So, in short life is good for Louie and Emma!

Thank you, Anna

I just LOVE these success stories! Louie is such a lucky lucky horse! The picture below is such a CLASSIC!
Emma looks SO HAPPY!!!! Louie looks SO CONTENT! Safe Haven Horse Rescue is all about FOR THE LOVE OF HORSES!, & with that love comes this; FOREVER SMILES on a LITTLE GIRL'S FACE & HEART!
Thank you Anna, for the up-date, & for taking such good care of these two! YOU ROCK! ")
Will keep you posted on these two as the up-dates come in!

A Safe Haven Saturday!

It was a wonderful day at Safe Haven Horse Rescue! Tracey, Barb, & Kathy took horses out for a trail ride. This is Tracey with her Bailey, all cleaned up after her trail ride & ready for some treats &............................
some horsey huggin' ups!!!!! Tracey LOVES her Bailey! Bailey is an Appaloosa & was saved from going to slaughter!
Safe Haven picked up this gelding named Remington, in Red Bluff, last Monday. His owner had passed away & her Sister was advised to call Safe Haven, by the boarding facility. He has pretty much just been fed & forgotten! Thank Goodness he was at least fed! His mane & tail are a mess! Whirlwinds in the mane But his tail was all most one solid mat. He's not feeling so good being all matted up! Poor guy!
SO! In comes Bonnie 'ridin' to rescue' of that gorgeous tail!!!!!! Look at that humongous matt! OUCH! Don't worry we'll be back to Remmy & his tail a few pics down!
Cori, took her beloved sponsored draft Zipper, out for a romp in the arena & a ride! Cori's daughter Samantha, thought he was hot so, she put her neck cooler on Zipper to help him out! I wonder how she reached his head??? He's 17.1 hands tall!!!! They look so cool in their neck coolers!!!!! && they were!!!!! Safe Haven is selling them for a fund raiser & you are welcomed to come out & see all the horses & pick a neck cooler up for yourself!!! They are $6.00 each! & there's a variety to choose from!
Remington, is all combed out & is much more comfy! Bonnie did a Stellar job making him handsome again! Thanks Bonnie, YOU ROCK! We found out lot's of info on his past yesterday & I am planning on a blog just about that! So keep tuned, it will be done soon!
Lydia was headed down to the tack room, which is the other end of the arena & Cori decided to give her a ride!!!! Zipper said he is Not a TAXI CAB!, but he was good & took them both to the other side of the arena! Good Boy, Zipper!!!
There were many more things going on, yesterday, but I didn't get all those pictures! "/ Sorry! So, now the day is getting late, & it is time to feed. Barb & I started on the waters, while Linda R., Lydia, & Carlie filled up all the grain buckets for the PM feeding! I got around to the back pens & found Billie, trying to drink out of Addy's blue water bucket in her pen!! I started to rinse him off, as he loves it BUT, Billie had other plans & wanted a drink from the hose!!!!! I was trying to hold the hose for Billie & get my phone out for a pic, all at the same time, so Barb came over to help out! I'd had a COW if my phone would have gotten drenched!!!
We were done with the PM feeding & this gorgeous Standard-Bred mare came into Safe Haven! Her name is Beauty, & by golly that she is!!!! She used to be a pacer racer, & turned out to be a little more than the Lady's son could handle, & she has her own horse, so she wanted Safe Haven to have her!!!!! I'll have much more info on her too.
Well, we were all happy & tired by the end of the day, & would so much love to share the horses with you & your family too! Next Saturday is Volunteer Work Day, & we'll be having some scrumptious summer treats included in the lunch we fix for y'all when you come to help the horses!!! Really hope to see you at Safe Haven Horse Rescue, 3950 W. Anderson Dr., Cottonwood, Ca. 530-347-4941! No appointment needed on Saturday!!!!
Bye for now'

Field Trip! Monday 8/2/2010

We had a full day of taking horses different places & picking up horses, planned! So, Cindi, Lydia, & I went with Linda R. to help out. Here is Cindi holding Ginger, she is a kill pen rescue from Shirley Puga. Ginger was pregnant & not even halter broke when she arrived at Safe Haven. She has since had a filly, Cayenne, & is now halter broke! Yeah, with big Thank you's to the volunteers who have been helping her to learn. She is a very sweet mare & is on her way to Ashley's for some training. Will keep you posted on her progress............
This is Buddy, & he has been adopted! He is on his way to his new home! Another Yeah!!!!!!
Buddy has arrived at his new home! Girl & Horse.........a winning combination!!!!! Buddy has some mighty nice 'digs' to hang out in too! Lucky little Arabian!!!!
Well, I journey continued on to Ashley's & here is Ginger in her new stall & pasture................. nice butt!

Hey Onyx! How you been????? Onyx is at Ashley's too for some training! So is DeeDee & Tawney, they were too busy in their pasture to come say Hey, so no pics of them!!!
So we had a great visit with Ashley & her friend Steve W. & got on the way to our last stop for horses! Meet Remmy, he is a tatoo'd T/B gelding & we will have more info on him as we look up his Tatoo. He is very friendly & sweet. He followed Cindi all over the pen & didn't fuss when Lydia checked for a tat on his upper lip! We're gonna leave the dechipering of that to Bonnie! Remmy's owner has passed away & the boarding facility recommended to her Sister to get in touch with Safe Haven Horse Rescue, as they have had some of our other adopted horses boarded there. We'll be assessing Remmy for awhile & I'll let you know how he is doing!
Well, after we loaded up Remmy in the trailer, we stopped at Tractor Supply for All in One & big bags of Apple & Oat Horse Treats. That done, & loaded in the trailer, we were headed home to Safe Haven. By this time we were all about DONE!!! LOL! It turned out to be kinda a long day!So once we were 'back at the Ranch' We unloaded Remmy, got him settled into his new home (Ginger's old pen) wormed him too! & he is scheduled for his vacs the next day! He hasn't had any in awhile. "/ I gave Cindi a ride over to Doug's house, & she walked Heather back across the street to Safe Haven. Cindi is taking Heather home to her nice green pastures to help put on some weight, she's fine but a little too T/B ribby for Linda's peace of mind!!!!! OK! Now it's hot! Yuk! Cindi rinsed off Heather, & put her in the arena & is going home to get her horse trailer & come back for Heather, Linda & Lydia & I are feeding the horses tonight, so we all take a short breather. Lyd & I go home for a few hours, & Linda goes up yo her house & finds 8 new messages, & 7 of them are for taking in horses!!!! Oy Vey! We are so stuffed full!!!!! Even our 'sky hooks' are full!!!!! OK! That was our Field Trip! Hope you enjoyed the happenings & maybe some day you can come too!
Bye for now,
Linda C.
