Sessie.......on Sat. 2/20/10
Here's a picture of her poor skinny body! She has put some weight on...but she has a long way to go!!!
While she was in the arena, she noticed that Candy was 'cruising' close to the gate of her pen!!!! &&& Sessie said "Oh no you don't!! You stay out of my pen Girlie!!!" Sessie, was in the arena when Onyx, the 3 year old Arabian, came flying by (too close for comfort) & OUR SESSIE! Let him have it! w/ a firm kick to his side!!! She does Not Stand for any of that rough housin' stuff!
After putting Onyx in his place, Bonnie took her out of the arena, & brought her down to the hitching post for some grooming, & Sessie got to meet Lovie!!!! (who just might become her Sister!) Holly, has called 'dibs' on Sessie!!!! (all depending on her recovery of course) Holly adopted Lovie, after she 'recovered' from being emaciated.......Lovie was 400lbs underweight when she came to Safe Haven Horse Rescue! SO! the current 'phase' at the ranch is adopting two horses of the same color!!! Bonnie has her chestnut T/B mares, Flower & Toni, Lisa w/ her Romeo & Juliette, both QH bays! & then Holly w/ her T/B bay girls!!! SWEET!
Sessie loved all the grooming attention from Bonnie, who knows how to do a very intensive 'clean up' grooming job!!!!
Here's another picture of Sessie's body about half way thru being groomed. I think she has gained weight! The plan was to weight tape her yesterday....but....there was so much going on...that we forgot to do that!!! I will post it as soon as we do that! OK! I am back & editing this post to say; Sessie now weighs 888lbs!!!!! WHOOOHOOO........Linda R. has just called me , to say they weight taped her today Sunday Feb 21,2010 She has gained: 38lbs.......so far!!!!!

Delta Dawn..what's that 902lbs...you've put on!!!!!!
Delta Dawn is such a character! She is always alert & checking out what's going on!!The expressions she gets on her 'most beauteous face' is amazing!!!! She's looking at Linda & saying....." I know everyone is interested in my progress BUT cheeze! a girl's weight is kinda PRIVATE ya know!"
So she let us do the weight tape & stood very still. The results were 902 lbs! A total weight gain of 202lbs! since she was brought to Safe Haven Horse Rescue in Sept of '09!!! AWESOME!
Dang! here's the same pic!!! "/................like the scarecrow says,,,"if I only had a brain"!!!!

Delta Dawn's neck is now starting to fill in & her face has gained some weight too! The best part is; she is not as 'pointy' on the hips & butt as she was when we first met her!!!!!!
Delta Dawn is having a problem w/ her left back leg, Linda R. went Cottonwood Vet Clinic on Friday & talked w/ Dr. Gray about the leg. He believes that there is a good possibility that the X-rays will show on old untreated injury...that just might be 'fixable' w/ surgery! Dr. Gray has just returned from a conference, all about fetlocks!!!! Talk about timing!!!!!!
These pics are not the best......it was late afternoon....so the light wasn't the best....but you can kinda see the problem.
Here's the right side of Delta Dawn's body! She is losing that dreaded 'tea cup' syndrome! YEAH!!! Good shot of her 'not so bony' hip bone too.
BUTT SHOT!!!!! Can you see that the dip at the top is not so large now?
I like this pic the best of her body shot, as it shows how nicely she is coming along!
So after all the weight taping and the checking out of her leg........it was time for some fun w/ Linda & Drifter, our girl decided!!!! So Linda got 'sandwiched' in between horse heads as they said 'hello' to each other!!! As you can see Drifter has a had a nice roll in the MUD!!!
After a bit of 'sharing' nose breath w/ Delta Dawn........Drifter turned to me as if to say....Here's looking at you kid!!!! Or,,,all righty then...enough with the camera!!!!
Look at those awesome noses! Aren't they just the cutest!!!!! Safe Haven Horse Rescue is such a wonderful place! The work is hard & is never ending!, but the REWARDS are LARGE! Wish....... everyone could come out to Safe Haven & enjoy the horses! Today is Saturday & always a big day at Safe Haven Horse Rescue...so load up the kids, & the grandparents, & come on out & brush a horse!!!Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Safe Haven Horse Rescue is Here for Our Equine Friends
We are a group of people who care about horses and their quality of life. As a non-profit organization (501C-3 Corporation), we improve the lives of horses by providing a safe environment and teaching other people to provide safe environments as well. We offer the horses a life where there is trust and hope. We also participate in the removal of horses from neglectful and/or abusive situations. Through the efforts of Safe Haven Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, we care for the equine, by restoring health and well being and if possible placing them in loving, caring homes.
The facility is maintained through the donations of supporters, throughout the United States and Canada, and we encourage you to visit our Website and consider a donation or the "adoption" of one of happy tenents
History & Background
Linda Richards started Safe Haven in January of 1995. Linda would go to auctions and see mistreated and neglected horses. This broke her heart because she knew they deserved a better life including someone who would love them and care for them. That was the vision that brought Safe Haven to reality. She has been rescuing horses for since 1995 now and takes them in as space allows.
At the age of sixteen, Linda had a horse of her own. She became a veterinary technician and thought that she would always be able to live in harmony with "Sunny". As time went on she had to make the difficult decision to give up her horse. Luckily, she found someone who would not only love Sunny just as much as she did but also had enough time to spend with him. It was through that experience that Linda discovered there were other people going through the same predicament and she wanted to help them as her friend had helped her. This was the first hint that Linda had that she would be involved in horse rescue. Now, along with her volunteers, she finds time to feed and care for 20-25 horses.
This Blog will continue to be a Journal of progress in growing the Facility and give notice of New Guest and the progress of existing horse in our care and custody.
Patches welcoming a new Friend, Diamond
