Thursday's PM feeding @ Safe Haven

Say Hello to Ebony! He is an Arabian & he is Black (so far anyway, wonder what his Summer coat color will be?) Linda R. has decided to put this guy on her magic Mush mixture. He's eating his hay & Barb will be back to feed him his mush when we're done feeding all the other horses, so she can stay & make sure the girls don't run him off of it! He's the low man in the pecking order!

This is Gypsy, the name that Cindi requested. So we have Ebony & Gypsy so far. Only the pregnant paint mare is in need of a name, & the foal after it's born of course! Barb gave Gypsy & Ebony a bath as it was 80+ degrees here in Cottonwood the other day, they had lot's of rain rot, so she gave them a betadine bath!

Look who's on CRUTCHES!!!  Yep you guessed it! Linda R. is on crutches as her foot is hurting almost too much to walk on! So she went for some X-rays & we're waiting on the results! I said she should have gone to the Vet, for the X-rays as she could have seen the results asap!!!! Linda also has some other stuff going on, but I will save that for the next blog!!! There's another 'energizer bunny' out at Safe Haven & that is Barb! She works from morning to night out at Safe Haven! Thanks for all you do too!!! She also has the great printing skills & makes the signs & labels for the pens & bins too! We're a family out at Safe Haven & would like to Welcome YOU too! Hope to see you Soon!

Bye for now,
Linda C.

Deena has RAIN ROT!!! & it's hard to look at!

Dee, & Debbie, came out to Safe Haven Horse Rescue, on Wednesday, April 8 2010, & they are now focusing on, DEENA, (since Charley is @ Summer Camp), they took her out of her pen & tied her up to the 'new' hitching post!, started to groom her, Linda R. came up & showed them that Deena, had a FUNGUS, called Rain Rot! Linda had them put on gloves, & showed them how to get the infected hair off of her, & after they did that, Linda brought out the Fung-a-Way spray, as it was still, too cold to give her a bath.........................Lisa Chadwick, showed up & took these pictures!!! The next pic, shows the 'rain rot' after her grooming! It is shocking!

It's very shocking!!!!! As if being Emaciated wasn't enough!!!! Makes ya wonder, wonder, wonder! WHY & HOW COULD YOU?
Thanks to Dee, & Debbie for taking care of Deena & making her more comfy! After they applied the Fung-a-way, they let Deena graze on some nice yummy green grass! Yeah! Safe Haven would like to THANK EVERYONE, who is helping us w/ this beautiful Mare.
Bye for now,

Ginger! When you gonna have that baby?????

Ginger, was in the arena on Sat. for some exercise, That she wasn't do much of........until, her pal Rumtata, showed up!!! Rummy decided that the two of them should play 'keep away' from Kathy & Steve!!!! Prego Ginger was 'hoofing it' pretty darn good there for awhile!!! But she is, as they say, 'ready to pop'! So we didn't want her to run too much!!!!

Finally, they gave up! & Steve brought Ginger out, & Kathy took Rummy to the hitching post for grooming. Ginger is a 'kill pen' rescue from Shirley Puga, & a few posts back, we told how Steve (Safe Haven's Horse Transporter) & Marlene, (Shirley's Horse Transporter) had to find out the hard way that Ginger was not halter broke, & DID NOT KNOW how to lead!!! So they backed her from Marlene's trailer into Steve's trailer! Steve says she road backwards the whole way home!!! Our little prego girl is back to her old tricks & doesn't want to go forward!!!! So Tracey, our Appy aficionado, is trying to lure her forward w/ a bucket!!! BUT Ginger says if there was sumptin' in that bucket, I might consider it!!! LOL!
Steve now decides to try the old standard & back her in!!!! Not working so well either!!!!!!!

So Bonnie joined in, to help. & finally with the two of them they succeeded in getting back in her pen!Steve is 'camping' out in his trailer this week, so he can keep an eye on Ginger &&& the other mare we have that is pregnant!!! Mello, a quarter pony, blue eyed, cremello/palomino paint! I'll do a blog on Mello soon! She's a cutie & very popular w/ My Granddaughter, Lydia, & Safe Haven Sponsors & Volunteers!!!

Will keep everyone up to date on the progression of the PREGO'S!!!!!!!

Sessie.......on Sat. 2/20/10

Sessie, was out in the arena for a little romp! She stopped long enough for me to take her picture tho! She is sooo pretty, & is doing much better!! Here's a picture of her poor skinny body! She has put some weight on...but she has a long way to go!!!

While she was in the arena, she noticed that Candy was 'cruising' close to the gate of her pen!!!! &&& Sessie said "Oh no you don't!! You stay out of my pen Girlie!!!" Sessie, was in the arena when Onyx, the 3 year old Arabian, came flying by (too close for comfort) & OUR SESSIE! Let him have it! w/ a firm kick to his side!!! She does Not Stand for any of that rough housin' stuff!

After putting Onyx in his place, Bonnie took her out of the arena, & brought her down to the hitching post for some grooming, & Sessie got to meet Lovie!!!! (who just might become her Sister!) Holly, has called 'dibs' on Sessie!!!! (all depending on her recovery of course) Holly adopted Lovie, after she 'recovered' from being emaciated.......Lovie was 400lbs underweight when she came to Safe Haven Horse Rescue! SO! the current 'phase' at the ranch is adopting two horses of the same color!!! Bonnie has her chestnut T/B mares, Flower & Toni, Lisa w/ her Romeo & Juliette, both QH bays! & then Holly w/ her T/B bay girls!!! SWEET!
Sessie loved all the grooming attention from Bonnie, who knows how to do a very intensive 'clean up' grooming job!!!!
Here's another picture of Sessie's body about half way thru being groomed. I think she has gained weight! The plan was to weight tape her yesterday....but....there was so much going on...that we forgot to do that!!! I will post it as soon as we do that! OK! I am back & editing this post to say; Sessie now weighs 888lbs!!!!! WHOOOHOOO........Linda R. has just called me , to say they weight taped her today Sunday Feb 21,2010 She has gained: 38lbs.......so far!!!!!

Safe Haven Horse Rescue, would like to THANK EVERYONE for all the donations given to help us, help this awesome horse!!! She is so kind & gentle................... & even if she wasn't........... she did not deserve to be treated like she was!!! Thank You All Again!

Bye for now,

EXCESSORIZED.......ARRIVES!!!!!

On, Monday, Feb.8,2010.....the Contra Costa County Animal Control, brought this beautiful, 5 year old,T/B mare, called Excessorized, to Safe Haven Horse Rescue. They had seized her from her previous owners sometime in January, & after reviewing many places to 'place' her they chose Safe Haven, as the best place for her!

Linda R. estimates that she needs about 300lbs. She will weight tape her today & we will post asap. After her long ride up to Safe Haven, she needed to rest & settle in before we started 'fussin' w/ the weight tape! She definitely has the 'TEA CUP SYNDROME'!!!! She is a TALKER! & she LOVES PEOPLE, she will follow you around & chit chat w/ you the whole time!!!! Just BOGGLES your MIND, as to HOW CAN THEY LET HER GET IN THIS CONDITION!!!

Makes us very sad, that this beautiful creature has to find her way back to good health! Contra Costa Animal Control did blood work on her & found she had a slight infection & has put her on antibiotics for awhile. We are continuing the feeding program that they have been using & will introduce supplements to her diet slowly IE; Linda's Miracle Mush, Cocosoya Oil, & Probiotics, etc.....

Excessorized, is a registered T/B with the Jockey's Club. I will post more about her history as we find it out. Excessorized, strolled around the arena, & stretched her legs after her arrival, had some lunch, & checked out her new surroundings. She met Linda R, Cindi & Wade,Tracey, Ryan, yesterday, & will meet the rest of us all by Saturday! We have to think of a shorten version of her name..... SO....we're thinking about calling her Cessy. What do you think? Cessy is all comfy cozy in her new HOME, she is in our beloved Delta Dawn's high necked blanket, & looks awesome in the red halter, & has lot's of shavings on her mats in her shelter, & FOOD in her box!! What more can ya ask? Oh, almost forgot, Cody, Safe Haven's Awesome Farrier, will be out today to do her feet!!! YEAH!!!!!!...your gonna be Stylin' Baby Girl!!!!!!

Linda R. reports that you can hear her chew, just like the 400lb underweight mare, Lovey, the day she arrived!!! Proof that she just wasn't being fed!!! Lovey is a success story & we are confident that Cessy will be too!

Volunteer Workday is this Saturday!!!! Come on out & meet the newbie, Cessy!!!!! give some treats, give some pets & hugs, do some 'scooping' & have some lunch!!! 3950 w. Anderson Dr. Cottonwood Ca.!!!! Hope to see you there!!!!

Bye for now,

Saturday, 1/30/10 was a busy one! Safe Haven Horse Rescue was able to administer Flu Vaccine to all of our horses, due to the AWESOME GENEROSITY of YOU ALL!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! It's little MiniMe's turn & she said at this point; "I's not moving any farther! you can push on my butt 'till you lift it in the air BUT, I's got my front feet planted & I's Not Moving!!!" It's amazing the horses, you think you will have a big problem with, sometimes surprise you, & take their medicine like a Mare!!!! This is Tracey's adopted Appy, Bailey. She is a kill pen rescue.

Sweet ole Denny, says; "Oh no you don't! I'm much taller than you two!!!!"

After a minute, she settled down, & let Linda R. give her the nasal vaccine!!!! Denny did have alot to say about all this! She said " whooo! ickyyyyyy, yukkkyyy,, it makes my lips lift up!!!!!"
Denny, is telling me, to tell YOU ALL; THANK YOU! for caring about ME! & for helping to buy all the vaccines, for me & all my equine friends!!! DENNY SAYS; "YOU ALL......ROCK!!!!
