Thank You to Michael Killingbeck of L&M Equine Photography for the pictures of Minime before her bath! She is sure taking her time in shedding out!!! Let's see her after pic!
Awwwww.she's so cute!!! This is her after picture, after her bath picture actually!!!
She's still losing hair! So she is SO scheduled for another bath on Sat! Linda said we might have to body clip her!!! My left knee said "Well let me know how that goes for ya, cuz Linda C. is not doing it"! If this confuses you, check down a few blogs for the rest of the story!!! Then you will totally understand! Hope you enjoyed the pics of Minime!
Bye for now,

Well Hello................DOLLY!

This is Dolly! She came to Safe Haven Horse Rescue on Saturday, July 24, 2010 from the R Wild Horse Ranch out in Platina. She needs some weight as she was low mare on the pecking order in the pasture, but that's not a problem for Safe Haven!!!! She'll be up to just perfect in no time!
The first pic of Dolly is out of order in her arrival but she is so pretty that I had to post it first! So here she comes out of the trailer! Nice Butt! She was very calm & came right on out of there! Good job, Dolly!
She is looking around Safe Haven & seems to like what she sees.
Dolly is a Belgian Paint, like Splash! I'll have to get a pic of the two of them for a blog! That will be so cute!
Dolly is very sweet & beginners can ride her but the beginner riders @ R Wild Horse Ranch were afraid of her size, probably the height more than her size, I'd say! So anyhoo, Lisa C. & her daughter Selena, take over on Dolly & go to give her a much needed bath!
Lisa are playing peek-a-boo? or just trying to see the top of her back??????? What a good girl Dolly! She is just standing & letting them give her, her bath!
There Lisa is! & Dolly is all clean & purty! She is gonna be stealing hearts if she hasn't all ready!!!
Dolly is doing quite well, & is settling in nicely. Thank You Lisa & Selena. You two ROCK! You should come out to Safe Haven & meet Dolly & all the other horses we have! Saturdays are open, no appointment needed! We can always use help in the summer @ morning feeding & at the evening feeding! It's a chore in itself to fill all the waters & spray the horses to cool them off & get the sweat off them! The morning feeding is early & the evening is later in the day when it starts to cool down some! Hope to see you out to Safe Haven! You'll find the peace of mind, soul, & spirit being around these awesome creatures! Dolly is just waiting to say Hi!!!!
Bye for now,
Linda C.

A Ride in the Park!

A few Sundays ago, Penny & Bonnie, treated themselves, with a ride on their horses in Anderson River Park! Bonnie took the pics, so ya won't get to see her! But she was certainly there enjoying her big ole gelding, Boogie. Penny rode her T/B, Storm. On the first part of their ride they saw Bambi!!!!
Boogie is having a blast! He loves it that Bonnie gets him out & about from the arena, his ears are looking happy!
& they have reached the water! Mmmmmm......tastes good! Nice & COLD! The Sacramento river runs through the park, but this is probably one of the many ponds, as the river is swift this time of year! Shasta Dam has to release enough water for the fishes, down south in the Delta!
There's Penny's Storm! He's a good looking guy too! Bonnie said that Penny was smart & brought some shorts along, so wait till you see what 'the boys' get to do next!!!!!!!!

Yep! They get to go swimming with Penny! Storm is saying,I'll follow you anywhere Mom, but are you sure????? or he's saying, what we doing this for???
I think he's saying here, Yee-Haw that water is cold on my butinski!!!!! Look how he has it all tucked in!!! Too cute! Just dive in Storm, it will warm right up!
OK, now he gets the hang of it all & is having a most refreshing swim! Good Boy, Storm! Good Mom, Penny!!! You're spoilin' that guy!!!!!!! Penny decides it's time for her to have some fun & let's Storm ...........................

pull her through the water........Oh, What FUN!!!!!!! How cute is that????? I KNOW, I'm jealous! LOL!!!
Now, it's Boogie's turn to swim. I really thinks he's saying; "Now Auntie Penny, are you sure about this??????"
Penny reassured him & he went for a swim!!!! YEAH!
See Boogie, you survived! Now wasn't that fun???? Good Job!

I'm sure both Boogie & Storm, would have liked to have been back in the pond this week, as the weather has been in the triple digits here in No. California!!!! I'm sure they will get to go again soon, as their Moms are dedicated to them & to riding!!!!! I'm certainly glad we all found our way out to Safe Haven Horse Rescue, & have Linda R. & each other, & of course all the 60 + (at the moment) horses in our lives!!!!! You can too! Come on out & Volunteer your time & or sponsor a horse!!! You'll be glad you did!!!!!! We all are!!!!
Bye for now,
Linda C.
PS. Penny pointed out something FUN! Both horses as they are Swimming ( Look Mom No Feet TOUCHING!) curled their lips UP! How cute is that?????? SO! You can blow up the pics by putting your cursor over the pic & when you get the HAND just click on it & it will be BIGGER!!!! Bye! ENJOY!

Shaggy Minime gets a bath!

Well, I thought it would be a grand idea to give little Minime a BATH! SHE DID NOT!!! Linda R & I had quite the time of it!!!!! It was 104+ degrees on Saturday, so we found some shade & proceeded to get her wet! She thought we were certainly gonna kill her with that WATER!!!
Unfortunately the hitching post was a little TALL for her, & didn't do much for us either!!!!! She was under over there, & under over here! We had a heck of a time with her!!!! LOL!
Look at those ears!!!! NOT a happy camper!!!!!
Having a 'tizzy fit' I'd say, Look at the look in her eyes!!! She is saying "Someones gonna PAY for this!" I'll tell you, who the lucky duck was in a minute!
So, Linda R. gets her wet enough to apply shampoo, which I was doing...........then the phone rings & Linda has to take the call, & I'm still washing her.....WHEN.............she does the 'airs above ground' Lipizzaner move, & double barrels me in my left KNEE!!!!!!! What a brat!!!! Clever little thing cuz, if she hadn't done that 'stellar' move she wouldn't have been able to kick me!!!
So Bonnie comes to MY rescue & puts a butt rope on her & controls her so I can finish up the shampooing & rinsing of the Little Darling!!!!!! I put conditioner on her mane, forelock, & tail, & brushed her out so she was just stunning! Mike comes over to take a picture of her as she was so cute & pretty..................UNTIL...................
she throws a TOTAL FIT.....& ends up throwing herself on the ground!!!! & now our pretty groomed up girl looks like this!!!!! OY VEY as they say!!!! She kinda settled down a bit after her 'trick'..............& we felt a little sorry for her..........................so.............

we picked most of the weeds off her & Kathy started to scratch her withers, & if you look at her eyes now.............she's going........ oh ya! That feels good!
She had her mouth going, like a dog that flea bites you cuz your scratches feel so good!!!!!!
Well, the good news is my knee is fine, just a small bruise! The BAD news is...........look out little Minime there is a another bath in your very near future!!!!!! Will keep you posted on those developments!
Bye for now,
Linda C.
PS. will post the before & after pics Mike took too!

Friday night feeding!

Little Minime is trying to hide from the HOSE! What she doesn't realize, is that, when Linda R. wants to rinse ya off, you're gonna get rinsed off one way or another!!!!!!! So here she is behind her shelter!!!!! That's her Mom Tootsie in the background.
Yee Haw she's getting her booty wet!!!!
&&& she is having a Tizzy! Would have loved to have gotten her head in this shot BUT, that didn't happen so....put this one in there so you can see just how shaggy she is!!!!! A real little mess! Be sure to check out the next post about her bath on Saturday!!!!!!
Holly bought Sessie a salt ball to play with & is in the process of teaching her what it's for! Sessie of course, wanted to know WHY wasn't she just GIVING her those treats!
The salt ring she bought for it, fell apart so she is using treats to teach her! She looks real impressed, huh? NOT! She had knocked the treats off the toy & Holly is picking them up for her!
Sessie, says OK! If I touch this Silly thing will you give me the treats?????? & Holly did & Sessie learned that the new toy was fun after all & it's fun to walk under it to scratch your back!!!!! Good Job, Holly!
As we were watching Holly & Sessie, I noticed that little Miss Pipi was chewing & shredding the tarp on her shelter! I went over to pull it out of her mouth But Of course I couldn't, so Linda came over to help & then , she called Holly over to help, so I could document the moment!!!!!
Darn panel is in the way, but Holly got two big wads of tarp out of her mouth! & now she is in a pen that has no tarps to eat!!!!!
Then, I noticed that Oreo & Cayenne were pretty miserable with flies, especially Oreo! He is a real smart little boy & the next pic will show you his solution to the problem!!!!!

Now that is one SMART little horse!!!!
So after all this fun, we got down to the task of feeding the horses & did survive the triple digit weather!!!! Hope to see you out to Safe Haven soon!!!!! It's not always hot!!!!
Bye for now,
Linda C.

Having your heart RIPPED right outa your chest!

Sad news, Safe Haven has lost Diamond! He was one of the first horses that Linda R. started Safe Haven with! He was quite swayed back, as you can see! & that was ok, he was still very happy & the vets said he was not in pain! We stopped anyone from riding him years ago, but in the last few months, he had started to stumble a lot & was just getting more unsteady every day!
So the very hard decision was made & we had him humanely euthanized last week. I met them up at the vets, & Linda R. Holly, Dr. Hillary & I saw him to his final moments!
I scratched him on the forehead, that he dearly loved to rub on you, &&& then even tho, it is a bad habit, I let him rub his head up & down my side, just once more for old time's sake! He was a happy camper!
He sure was one of the favorites out at the ranch! My Grand Daughter, Lydia, when she was about 11, she was riding him in the arena one day & there was a rattlesnake crawling threw the arena & Diamond never moved!!! He just stood still, so we could take care of the problem! Good BOY!
Our hearts have been ripped right out of our chests, but, we find solace in knowing that he is up there in those Rainbow Bridge Meadows, romping with his good buddy, Patches, & they are young & strong!
Bye for now,
Linda C.

GOOD NEWS! Our girls are chunky monkeys!!!

Yup! The title is correct!!! Both Excessorized & Deena have had to have their quantity of mush cut down as..........Excessorized is up to FULL WEIGHT!!!!!!! YEAH! & Deena is all most there!!!! This is of Sessie on Saturday's pm feeding! She looks down right CHUBBY!!!!!! SWEET!
Deena, being a LOT older than Sessie, still needs some pounds to fill in the hips, & Upper butt, but her neck is a little too' Cresty', for the liking!! "/ So, Linda, has lowered the amount of the alfalfa pellets given to her & how often in a day! She is doing extremely well for being over 20!
Oh, Oh, looks like Debra & Dee, (Deena's sponsors)will have to wash her fly mask all over again!!! cuz she is having a MARVELOUS Sunday morning breakfast!!!! How'd ya like to smooch that moosh???? Messy but oh so cute!
Well, tomorrow is Volunteer Work Day at Safe Haven Horse Rescue & some of us & Splash are scheduled to go up to Tractor Supply in Redding for their Horse Day!!!!! We hope to see you out at the ranch, or at Tractor Supply, both activities will be fun & horsey!!! Hope to see you there!
Bye for now,
Linda C.
