Jackie comes bearing raffle gifts & gets put to work!

Jackie Kitchell, came bearing gifts for the raffle table at Safe Haven's Playday, on Oct. 11th, 2009 at the Bobby Jones Arena in Cottonwood. She brought a bridle & a coat rack! how cute!! Jackie has adopted an Arab mare, Sweetie, & a blue roan pony, named Huckelberry, from SH a few years back. Jackie has her own business......it is; Health & Wellness Therapies for Horse & Rider. so......she wasn't there very long before she offered to work on Califfe....he is a recent addition to SH & has an ochey spot on his back. Jackie can be reached @ (530) 529-3029. So, Linda R. went & got him, & Jackie went to work!

He was very good for his massage, cuz it felt very good!!

He was lickin' his lips in no time! Jackie is such a nice person, you can just tell by the way she is looking at Califfe! I told her I want to be next!

Jackie worked on Califfe for quite a little while, & she used another piece of equipment that I didn't get a pic of. She also does magnet therapy & has left one to see if it will help out ole Billy, the T/B who is psych meds! She was going to come out today to show Bonnie how to use it & see how he does w/ it.

Well I must get ready for work......so will post more pics tomorrow, as I took 70 pictures yesterday!!!!!
Bye for now,
Linda C.

PS. Good shot of Linda R.'s Safe Haven tank top! We have tanks, t-shirts, & hats available for
a $20.00 donation.

Drifter is such a handsome guy!

This is Drifter, he got to go for a trail ride on Sat. w/ Chrissy, a new volunteer @ Safe Haven Horse Rescue. What a handsome horse! He is such a good boy, that we used him for the Summer Camp we had in June. The little girl wanted to adopt him, but Safe haven decided that we should keep him @ the ranch, as sometimes his good eye gets "weepy" & needs immediate attention, so he is now a resident. If you all recall, Drifter needed eye surgery for a collasped eye ball, & the FOB's came "riding" to the rescue & raised the funds needed for his surgery :) As you can see here, he still a handsome boy, even w/ the removed eye. Look at his ears!! he's probably the only horse that cooperated yesterday w/ my picture taking!!!!!! LOL.........

Bonnie is helping Chrissy to put the bridle on Drifter for their trail ride! Drifter is patiently waiting for them! Didn't get any pics on the trail :( sorry!
a big SHOUT OUT to the FOB's for helping to save this wonderful guy :) Thank You So Very Much!!!! Drifter is very blessed to have you all in his corner!
Bye for now,
Linda C.

1st ANNUAL MOUNTAIN ANIMAL & ART FAIRE!

Safe Haven Horse Rescue attended the....1st ANNUAL MOUNTAIN ANIMAL & ART FAIRE......sponsored by R.A.I.N. - Rescued Animals in Need.........on Sunday, Aug 22nd @ Lake McCumber....in Camp McCumber, up above Shingletown! As you can see it was a very beautiful place to be! We set up our info booth & did alot of promoting for Safe Haven. The faire had a very good turn out & there was lot's of people to talk to. We talked about our Fall Playday, on Oct.11th, this year @ the Bobby Jones Arena in Cottonwood. We encouraged the folks without horses to come watch all the fun too.
We were able to talk about the PMU industry w/ the board here of Splash & Zipper.

The great newsletters put together by Cori was a huge help, & the people loved being able to read all the going-ons @ Safe Haven. We had 5 months worth of newsletters to hand out.

Here's pic of our whole booth.

This a pic of that great big tree root in the lake, there was lot's of Canadian Honkers on the lake, & I got to see an Osprey, flying in the sky........very beautiful!

Volunteers, w/ the Shasta Wildlife Center were there also. This a little Screech Owl on display, & the lady holding him is going to come & volunteer @ Safe Haven too!!!!!!

I would like to say what a very nice job was done by all the R.A.I.N. people, they really worked hard to put on such a nice event! Cudos to you all! We will be waiting anxiously for next year's event!!!

Bye for now,
Linda C.

Cherokee, a very nice gelding

This is Cherokee, he is in his late teens, the vet says,..... & he is a very nice guy. When he came to Safe Haven, he hadn't been ridden for over four years! We let him settle in for awhile & then Bonnie put him thru his paces & she is quite pleased w/ him & all that he knows! Cherokee is available for adoption! He will make some lucky person a very special companion!
This gelding is a real gem........he is sweet & has alot of training in his past. Look how pretty his dun colored body is!!!!!! Dun colored horses are Bonnie's favorite! If she didn't all ready have her "Flower" & supporting "Billy" the T/B, I'm sure Cherokee wouldn't be going anywhere!!!!!! Bye for now, Linda C.

Wow! Look who's riding WHO!

Gosh..........what a pretty horse & rider! I guess our Kayla just likes those BIG & TALL, horses! If you keep up w/ Safe Haven's blog, than you know that Kayla was riding Josh, a good sized T/B, & now she's on Chance a QH/Warmblood! Chance is 10 years old, & is a kill pen rescue from So. Cal. Why would anyone send him to slaughter? He's as sweet as can be! Anyhoo, let's see who else is riding a different horse! Yep! Look at Christa...........on Josh!!!!!!!!! just blows me away!!!!! I am so excited to see her riding him........Way to go Christa!!!!!!!!! Josh is a very tall horse too, & there is Christa way up there!!
Now we have Alex, & she is more my kind of style when it comes to riding horses! No "nose bleed seats" We like a horse a little closer to the ground!!!!! Alex looks so cute on Cannonball! He is such a cutie too. Don't know about you, but this is so awesome to see these girls on these horses! They must have had a great day!
I'd like to Thank, Bonnie for e-mailing the pics to me :] so I could share them w/ you all! What fun we are all having, helping out at Safe Haven Horse Rescue! It's a wheel barrel full of fun & water buckets of joy out there!!!!!! Hope to see you out there some Saturday! Bye for now, Linda C.

Happy Campers!! at Humbolt Redwoods & Clam Beach.

Here are some great pics of Safe Haven's dedicated volunteers & board members, having fun while camping at the Humbolt Redwoods with some of the horses from Safe Haven! first we have Penny & Rumtata on the beach @ Clam Beach. "Rummy" is Penny's go to horse for outings, she is quiet & steady for the most part. Sarah is on her "Gracie" Isn't Gracie so pretty? They have that special bond between horse & rider. Both of them are very special.
Gracie with her ears going this way & that! The above pic is better!

Penny on Rummy.

Here's the whole group! Bonnie on Flower, Holly on Lovie, Sarah on Gracie, Penny on Rummy, Steve on DRIFTER, Larry on Red, & Tracey on Bailey! Drifter, is the horse that had a collasped eye ball that had to be removed, & the FOB's were very dillegent in raising funds for this sweet guys surgery!

Bonnie (in purple shirt) on Flower, the T/B that she adopted from Safe Haven, is a real gold mine of knowledge w/ horses. Holly (in pink) is riding Lovie, she also adopted her from Safe Haven. Lovie came into SH very under weight, to the tune of about 400lbs under weight!!!!! Their bond is a thing of beauty too. Tracey ( in blue) is on her adopted girl, from SH, Bailey. This awesome appy was headed to slaughter!!........she was saved from the "kill pens" by Shirley P. Tracey went w/ Linda R. to meet Marleen & pick up the horses that were coming to SH. when Tracey saw Bailey come out of that trailer, she knew that was HER APPY!!!!!!! Bailey is a very lucky Appy! Real pretty one too! Just look at that pretty face!

Now Bailey says I'm pretty all over!!!!!!!

We'll just call this one The 3 Amigas!

Having fun riding on the beach!

Cute Butts!

Looks like Steve & Drifter are checking out the waves!

What fun this must have been!

Settin' up camp..........looks as if there are things to discuss!!!!!!!

Nice tents!

Whoops! Butt shot of the human kind!

Sarah's gonna sleep comfy!

Good ole Steve's turn to cook!

Safe Haven's people & horses really enjoyed their "Va-Kay" & are all ready making plans for next year!!! Hope you enjoyed their pics too........Bye for now, Linda C.

Simone's Sarah is coming for a visit!

Awhhhhhh.....What a cool picture! This is Sarah W. she took riding lessons & sponsored a Safe Haven horse for quite a few years. When Simone came into Safe Haven, he "stole" Sarah's heart & her family adopted him for her. Sarah is going to college now, so we will be very happy to see her & catch up on the going ons in her & her family's life! Sarah says that Simone is looking very good this year, the best she's seen him yet. Simone is one of the few horses that needed to LOSE weight when he came into Safe Haven! He was quite the chunk!, on the verge of foundering!

Sarah & her friend Laura, took turns riding Simone. Look at that handsome guy!!!!!

It's hard to tell that Simone is twenty years old now! Sarah says SHHHHH, he doesn't know he's that old!!!!!! Will post more after her visit. Bye for now, Linda C.

Look at this beautiful picture of Bonnie & her Flower on the beach!!!!!! Flower loves water so much I'm surprised she isn't swimming!!!!!!!!!! We need to frame this one, it is such a great picture!....look at that reflection! Awesome! This is Sarah on her Gracie, Bonnie on her Flower, & Holly on her Lovie, now I need pics of the other campers, on the horses they took too, we're missing Penny, Tracey, Larry, Steve, & Ryan-no horse-he's a hiker!!!!!!!!!
They all had a wonderful time & are planning to go again soon. Bye for now, Linda C.

Twist & Shout......Reno!!!!!

While posing for his picture last week, sumptin must have bit Reno cuz he is about bent in two getting back there to take care of business!!!!! This pic is just too cute not to share :) Guess we could have called this "Front meets Back", "East meets West", "Hello tail", !!!!!!!! Reno, Dreamer & Shyanne are getting more people friendly every day. Two volunteers cleaned their pens yesterday & they were all good - no escapes, no fits, no drama........Thank Goodness!Bye for now, Linda C.

Shyanne meets Penny

Penny was out to the ranch last Sat. & after she worked her big baby "Chewy", she decided to help w/ the babies, she's in the pen w/ Shyanne & is offering her a cookie to get things started! After a whole lot of coaxing she did gently get a hold of Shyanne, look @ that poor baby's ears!!!! She is just so scared!

Wow! Look it here, they are outside of the pen & getting ready for a little walk. Shyanne is looking at all the other horses & is probably seeing Dusty, a colt that was born @ Safe Haven a few weeks ago.

Shyanne did very good on her walk w/ Penny. She got to meet Charlie, one of Safe Haven's residents. She also had her front feet picked up by Bonnie & she just knew she was gonna die!!! but low & behold she did live thru that scary moment!!!!!!

The babies are a lot of fun &&&&&&& a lot of work! They are gonna grow up to be wonderful horses. They will know what a kind & loving relationship they can have w/ a human being, unlike their poor Moms. The Moms are out being wild horses in sanctuaries, & the babes are safe @ Safe Haven Horse Rescue.......it's a win win situation. Bye for now, Linda C.

Meet Second Chance...a So. Cal. kill pen rescue!

This handsome Warmblood/TB gelding came onto Safe Haven Horse Rescue from So. Cal. He is a kill pen rescue! He is a very nice horse & Bonnie had no trouble riding him for the first time last Sat. He has very nice ground manners & is very people friendly, & is quite the "charmer" to the mares! He thought Tracey's Appy, Bailey, was REALLY cute. He arched his neck (really beautiful sight) & I'm sure he was talking "French" to her!!!!!!! Bailey was flattered! I'll post more on Chance as we get to know him better.......Bye for now.........Linda C.
