Pepper! What have you done to your Knee???

Well, she did up Big time, this time!!! Somehow Pepper managed to fall down in her pen & rip her knee OPEN! So! Off to the Vet she went for stitches!!!!! She received 10 or so stitches & a shunt! She was on 15 SMZ's (antibiotics) 2x's a day for 15 days!!!! The next pic of her knee is NOT for the weak stomached! It's real icky, but that was a week into her recovery, & never fear it is a whole lot better now! Pepper did this around the 3rd week in October!

Yep I told ya, it's GROSS looking!!!! Let's move on!

Linda R. has cleaned Pepper's knee all up, & it hurt some but Pepper was brave & stood still cuz she knows, Linda R. would never hurt her on purpose!!! The cool water on her knee more than likely felt pretty good too. So all that cleaning done, it's now time to wrap her back up!

First the gauze pad w/ medicine too, & now the big cotton wrapping.

There we go! All wrapped up w/ color matching vet wrap too!!!!! Guess we were having a purple kind of day!!!!!

Pepper was so good she got some Cookies!!!!!  The first one she got was from NANCY! Thank YOU Nancy for the fancy fancy treats that your friend makes!

Here's the box of the Gourmet Treats that Nancy sent up for the horses at Safe Haven! They were; Pumpkin & Spice Flavor Pumpkins w/ Sprinkles!!!!! We kept them in the frig in the barn & had to keep telling people, No, you can't have those, they're for the Horse's, they are Treats!!!!!! Well, Pep decided, she needed More Cookies so.......................

Out came the Stud Muffins Treats, that Lisa sent up for the horses!!!!! Thank You Lisa!!!! Sorry the pic is blurry!!! But I don't know how to change it without redoing everything!!!!! "/

Hmmmm......what other Diva at Safe Haven wants a COOKIE????? Yep it's Bonnie's mare Flower!!!!!! She got some too, as how could you say no, to that beautiful face & look at that eye!!!! Awwww.......

OK, we have jumped a few weeks in time & Pepper's knee, has the stitches & the shunt out & needs some air! It looks really good from the first pic we saw! The trouble we have now is; How do we keep Pepper from messin' with it? Well, check out the next pic!!!!

A neck collar!!!!! Needless to say Pepper was NOT impressed with this contraption!!!!!! but it did it's job & the knee got the much needed break from the bandage! Pep had this on for most of the day, but only while people were around to make sure she didn't do something Drastic!!!! Pepper is pretty much all healed up for now!!! She has been moved out of the little confinement pen, & is back in her old pen! She loves the pen she is in now, & so does her sponsor Sondra!!!! We had the babies, Oreo & Cayenne in the pen for awhile, but since they have been adopted, Pepper moved back in!!! Speaking of a Baby being Adopted......If I has some Pictures! I'd gladly do a blog on Who got Whom for her Birthday Present, Nancy!!!! ")  Well bye for now, Linda C.

The 3 newbies from Fallon

Linda R. has put all 3 of the kill pen rescue horses on the Mush. They are doing wonderfully, and are settling into Safe Haven quite well. Yea! Here we have Barb giving the night time bucket of mush to the Paint mare who is in foal & Yes, she still needs a name!!!
Sorry, that the next few pics are dark but we were running out of daylight after feeding & putting on nine million blankets!  It was going to be in the low 30's in the morning! This is Barb haltering up the Paint mare to see if she will let us put a blanket on her! Wish us luck!
Diane, a faithful volunteer to the horses is also helping to put the blankets on, so Barb is holding & Diane is hefting the blanket up on the mare. This could be a possible rodeo, as we do not know yet what she is used to!
There's Diane, she is hefting the blanket up on the Paint mare. Well, we did not have a rodeo........Yea......The mare was very good & just stood there so we could adjust straps etc.....
This is the black gelding Ebony, he is a real sweetie! Nice & calm, as you can see the lead rope is just resting on his shoulders while his blanket is being adjusted to him! Good Boy, Ebony!!!! The bay mare, Gypsy, also got a blanket but it was just way too dark to get any pics! She was good too, they just keep adding up points on the good side of things, they all are very sweet & will make somebody a very good horse someday! Geeze! I almost forgot......the horses were weighed, Ebony is 732 lbs, Gypsy is 782 lbs, and the Paint mare weighed in at 847 lbs, that also means they have been wormed too! They met Cody, Safe Haven's Farrier and have had their feet done too. We have found out that poor ole Ebony has worn his front teeth done to nothing! So a musher he'll always be! Makes a person wonder what he had to try and eat that would wear his front teeth done so badly. "/
Hope you come out to meet all the horses soon!
Bye for now,
Linda C.

Thursday's PM feeding @ Safe Haven

Say Hello to Ebony! He is an Arabian & he is Black (so far anyway, wonder what his Summer coat color will be?) Linda R. has decided to put this guy on her magic Mush mixture. He's eating his hay & Barb will be back to feed him his mush when we're done feeding all the other horses, so she can stay & make sure the girls don't run him off of it! He's the low man in the pecking order!

This is Gypsy, the name that Cindi requested. So we have Ebony & Gypsy so far. Only the pregnant paint mare is in need of a name, & the foal after it's born of course! Barb gave Gypsy & Ebony a bath as it was 80+ degrees here in Cottonwood the other day, they had lot's of rain rot, so she gave them a betadine bath!

Look who's on CRUTCHES!!!  Yep you guessed it! Linda R. is on crutches as her foot is hurting almost too much to walk on! So she went for some X-rays & we're waiting on the results! I said she should have gone to the Vet, for the X-rays as she could have seen the results asap!!!! Linda also has some other stuff going on, but I will save that for the next blog!!! There's another 'energizer bunny' out at Safe Haven & that is Barb! She works from morning to night out at Safe Haven! Thanks for all you do too!!! She also has the great printing skills & makes the signs & labels for the pens & bins too! We're a family out at Safe Haven & would like to Welcome YOU too! Hope to see you Soon!
Bye for now,
Linda C.

Home to Safe Haven! Safe & HUNGRY!

Well.............. HERE THEY ARE!!!!!!! Home to recover from their near death experience & to get FAT & SASSY, & to find the NEW LEASE on LIFE,  that has been given to them!!!!  'HUGE' THANK YOU! to the FOLKS on the SAVING END! ") Safe Haven will take it from here & DO WHAT WE DO! Safe Haven with all our wonderful supporters & volunteers will get these 3, (soon to be 4!), back up to GOOD HEALTH!

This is the Gelding, he is pretty darn skinny! Safe Haven has seen worse But this is still.............. AWFUL!

The MARES! The paint is PREGNANT!  Safe Haven was told that she is due........in........ Feb or March! The bay mare (I think) will be a real sweetie! She just has the bestest kind eye! Safe Haven can hardly wait to give her a BATH & get some CONDITIONER on that beautiful mane & forelock!!!!

Here's a close up of the bay mare's body. Need some pounds here! &&& a NAME! Cindi votes for Gypsy! What do you think????? They all need names! Let's have some fun, & start to suggest names! We do need to let them settle in, & I'll keep ya posted on their PROGRESS &&&& ANTICS!!!

The bay mare's butt! This is one of  her official BEFORE PICS!

The Pregnant paint mare! She definitely needs some Good Nutrition, as she is eating for 2! If the info, we got today is correct, we have a few short months to get her back to health!

Love this pic! She is bathed in SUNSHINE! Oh! Could that be a clue to her new name?????

Yep! It's food! Go ahead & eat little big boy! ( the bay mare, ran him off, of the first feeder!) We'll be..........WATCHING...............to make sure he gets his Food!

This is his official BEFORE PIC! Gosh! Just look how skinny he is! Dang it! This is his right side, so now let's see the left!

Yep! Cindi shows us a ........... Big ole bite mark on the skinny Gelding! DANG! Safe Haven Horse Rescue is all about for 'THE LOVE OF HORSES' & these 3 (soon to be 4) will be just fine! Hope you can come out  to Safe Haven & be involved in their recovery, or to help in any way you can!................................ Bye for now, Linda C.

Three more saved from SLAUGHTER!

Okay, this is the pregnant mare, Linda was told that she is due in Feb. or March! That's a relief! Linda was worried that we wouldn't have much time to get her up on her weight & in better condition before she gave birth! Wonder what the baby will be? Will she be a paint also?? Guess I'm assuming we're having a filly!!!

This is the bay Arabian mare. She certainly could use some steady groceries! Look at those ribs! Oh, just wait till you get home to Safe Haven, Baby Girl! You'll be SO VERY HAPPY! She looks like she has a very kind eye. Can't wait to give her Treats, & Food, & LOVE! It will take a little bit, for her to realize what a wonderful place, she has been taken to, But it won't take too long before she's a talkin' & a callin' for her share of treats & attention & FOOD!

This is the Arabian gelding of the group, you certainly can see his ribs too!!! Rick gave him a carrot upon their arrival, & he couldn't chew it!!!! Linda says that he is a good candidate for the 'magic mush'. The man that brought them to Susanville, from Fallon, said that he was getting 'run' off of the food, so they eventually moved him to a pen of his own to eat.  I'll keep ya posted on his condition as to; does he just need his teeth floated or is he a musher for the rest of his life! The three horses will need to be caught up on all the vaccines, 4-way, West Nile, & Rabies, they will need to be wormed, 'psylliumed', see the Farrier, & the Vet too!!!  They will also need some blankets, Waterproof, & Breathable, Winter Blankets! It takes a village, as they say! Safe Haven is in need of those kind of blankets as we have found out that a BUNCH of our blankets have LOST the Waterproofing on them!   So if by chance YOU have one to spare.......Safe Haven will put it to good use! Thank You in advance! I'll be back with more news on the newbies, as I am feeding this afternoon & should be there when they arrive! Bye for now, Linda C.
