Autumn loves Diane!

Safe Haven Volunteer, Diane, took a break from scooping, to give Autumn some attention! I believe Diane has found "the spot" as they say!

Autumn is so happy for the scratching, if you blow up this pic & look at her eye, it is just so content! Yes, this is the pregnant mare from the kill pens in NV. She is really looking pregnant these days, her belly is rather huge! We're wondering if she'll make it to March!

Look at those happy happy lips! Oh Yeah, she says! Safe Haven is hoping this mare will let us handle the baby without too much of a fuss. So giving her a lot of attention is our goal at the moment! Autumn is in the 'birthing pen', & it's right up by the barn & arena & it gets a lot of traffic by it. As you can see, she's okay with that!!! Wonder what the baby will be & what color? Rest assured you'll know almost as soon as we do! Autumn will be happy to see you too, especially if you bring her some treats! She's eating for TWO ya know! Saturdays are a good day to just come on out! The next Volunteer Work Day will be on Feb 12, 2011, if you come help with the horses we'll provide you Lunch! Hope to see you at Safe Haven soon!

Remember these two???? An Up-date from Susan B.

Hi Linda,

Here are some pics I took of these two on Sunday.  They were out with my 17 year old gelding enjoying the sunshine and enjoying the green grass.  Can you believe the size of Lizzie Ann?  She's gonna be a big girl.  Thanks.

Susan
Susan sent these pics on Jan 26, 2011, so I thought it would be nice to see Lizzie Ann's & Dusty's Destiny's baby pictures!
Lizzie Ann is one month old here. She was born on April 17, 2009. She is just sooooo cute!

Dusty's Destiny came into this world on July 13, 2009. Another cutie!

Look at them now! WOW how they've grown!!!! That is Susan's 17 year old gelding in with them too. Coming up is what Susan is offering to do for the horses at Safe Haven! It was posted on Safe Haven's Face Book page, by Cori.

One of our fabulous volunteers, Susan Brooks, is with our local Keller Williams Realty office. She has announced that she is willing to donate $250 to the horses for every closed escrow that results from a SHHR referral. Please pass the word!!!!! Here is her info and link!

Just relaxing in the pasture! Lizzie grazing & Dusty scratching (I think)

Here's the two 'babies' side by side! They look like they are about the same in size......But boy oh boy! Wait till you see the next picture!!!!!

Look at the difference! Amazing, isn't it? Susan took this pic a few weeks before she sent the others! WOW! They looked so close in size out in the pasture! Safe Haven Horse Rescue would like to THANK SUSAN for all that she has helped with & the support she is offering to us! Susan & Cori are also collaberating together for a couple of Summer Camps for Safe Haven this Spring & Summer...so stay tuned for the news on that!!! We'll keep ya posted!

Sugar gets a bath!

It was so nice & sunny & warm on Friday, that Linda R. just had to give Sugar a bath! As you know from the fist pics of him, it had been a long time since he had one.

A new Volunteer to Safe Haven, Brenda, is helping Linda to bathe Sugar. She spent most of the day with Linda & Barb doing lots of chores! Thank You Brenda! Hope to see you often!

Yep, I think we'll see a lot of Brenda, she's smitten with that HORSEY LOVE!!! Sugar certainly is enjoying her attention!

Yes, Sugar was bathed from head to toe so to speak!

Brenda is helping Sugar to get dry, they used the shedding blades to get as much water off of him as they could.

Linda put a blanket on Sugar to help him be warm & to help him dry. That's Barb's shadow, she is taking this pic! Sugar felt so GOOD after his bath, when Linda let him loose in the arena, he 'rodeod' it some, & Linda had to make a quick jump out of the way, but still got bumped by his butt! So now we're wondering is Sugar as sweet as his name? OR............will there need to be a name change???? We'll keep ya posted on that, as the Sugar Saga unfolds!

Sorry for the blurry pic! Didn't notice that when I chose it! Anyhow, Linda & Barb are putting a different blanket on Sugar to make sure he is warm through the night. Sugar probably thinks he's in heaven! His day consisted of 'magic mush' & hay for breakfast, a very nice bath, a blanket to protect him from being cold, a goodly amounts of COOKIES after his bath, a romp in the arena, a warmer blanket, & more of the 'magic mush' & hay for dinner!!! What more could the ole boy ask for? I'm sure there are a few more things he could want, but I'd say his day was perfect!

Wade Flory, a Renaissance Man

Wade and Dozer at the Anderson river park for a great day of riding.

Wade doing his final training in Wisconsin before he leaves for Afghanistan later this month.

Sargent Flory is being deployed with the 649Th Eng. Co. out of Chico, Ca.
He will be in Afghanistan for ten months starting sometime  in Feb. 2011. He is a member of the Redding National Guard but because of his qualifications the Chico unit picked him to go with them on their deployment. He is also a volunteer at Safe Haven Horse Rescue. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Wade & Cindi on their Wedding Day, BEAUTIFUL!

Wade & Cindi's son, Wado at his first Safe Haven Play Day, took the blue Ribbon in the lead line class with Dad running faster than the pony Wado rode!!!

Wade is helping to cement in the hitching posts he welded up for Safe Haven.

This is Wade giving hugs to his Safe Haven Adopted horse, Dozer. Dozer loves Wade very much & actually hugs him back!
Well thought I would let everyone know Wade is boarding his flight to leave for Afghanistan please keep him in your prayers for a safe journey. Thanks to everyone for your encouraging words at this most difficult time. Love to all...
Cindi posted that on her FB page last night. We are all praying for Wade's & all the Troop's,  SAFE RETURN!

Hi there SUGAR! Want some breakfast?

Sugar was warming up in the sunshine yesterday morning, & is waiting for his turn to be fed his breakfast! As you can see by his expression, he is quite attentive!

Chris serves up Sugar's 'magic mush' for him & he is soooo ready to eat!

Sugar says, I'll try that!

& with a mouthful of mush, he says that's YUMMY! Just love those mushy lips! Sugar finished his breakfast, so I took the opportunity to get a real close up of his body condition, as I think he's even in worse shape than the first pics we posted!

Boy Oh Boy, look at those withers! That is just awful!

Yup, the butt pretty much matches the withers! Awful darn flat! So, let's review the facts we have on Sugar; He was seized by the Butte County Animal Control on Nov. 23, 2010, Safe Haven Horse Rescue went down to Oroville to pick him up on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, Sugar was weight taped upon arrival to Safe Haven, & he weighs 700 pounds, he desperately needs a bath,( that he will get as soon weather permits)  he LOVES his 'magic mush' & most important of all is; HE IS ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY! We will keep you all posted on the continuing saga of Sugar's recovery!
