Judd, a Medicine Hat Paint

There was a small break from the rain on Saturday, so horses were let out to run & roll!!!! Here comes The Judd!!!! He certainly is feeling frisky!!!!! Way back to the other end of the arena Rebel & Cherokee are being frisky too!

Put the brakes on there, Big Guy!!! Can ya tell he has had a blanket on???? Compare his neck to his body!!!!! Judd is a Medicine Hat Paint, he has the color over his ears, the 'shield' of color on his chest, & color over his back. American Indians thought these horses had 'Special Powers' so hence the name Medicine Hat. Well! Thought I'd make sure I had the story right on the Indians and the Medicine Hats, & this is what I found. First, a Quote; (author unknown) Protected are those who are loved by a Medicine Hat for no harm will come to them. Cool huh? I also found that the famous children's book author Marguerite Henry, wrote about them in a book called "San Domingo: The Medicine Hat Stallion" and that Breyer, made a model of San Domingo too. Also, since no harm would come to their riders usually only Chiefs or Great Warriors would own them. OK back to our Judd!
Judd is a musher out at Safe Haven Horse Rescue, and that means he does not have enough teeth left in his old age to chew up hay, so he lives exclusively on the mush mixture that Linda Richards has refined over the 15 + years of taking care of horses. He Loves his mush!  Judd also needs some medical attention to his left eye, unfortunately, it will have to be removed, there is a tumor growing and pushing his eyeball in! We hope to raise the funds needed this winter, so he can have the surgery BEFORE the FLYS come back!
Judd is a real sweetie, and is very loved by the little ones, this is my Granddaughter, Lindsy, dressed up as a fairy, for the costume class at the last Play Day, Safe Haven had in Oct. Aren't they just adorable!!!! Judd even had his own set of wings! Big smile on that face! Kids and Horses!!! a Safe Haven Specialty! Darren looks rather happy himself in this pic! He was the stellar 'Grill Man' for the Play Day! You can also see Excessorized in the back ground too. She and Andy were the flag carriers to get the Play Day started!!!  They are both descendants of Secretariat. Well, hope to see you out to Safe Haven Horse Rescue soon!!! Next Saturday is Volunteer Work Day!!!!!!! We'll make ya LUNCH, in exchange for your helping out ") 3950 W. Anderson Dr. Cottonwood, Ca. 96022....530-347-4941

Bye for now,
