Sessie meets Dr. Gray

Safe Haven Horse Rescue took Sessie into the Cottonwood Vet Clinic, so Dr. Gray could do some more blood work on her & to get his opinion of her, on & off fevers! Linda R. brought ALL the paperwork & blood test results we have on Sessie. Dr. Gray is going over her paperwork, he noticed that her fibrogen levels are low,(I'm sorry I don't have all the right wordage that he used, but will get up to speed on that asap) & he knows the people who bred Sessie & he even has a 1/2 sister to her!!!!! Small world! She had a VERY sharp point on one of her back teeth, so Dr. Gray is fixing that!!!! Sessie was VERY GOOD!
Yes, Dr. Gray checked her over from end to end!!!! He told us that her ovaries were 'cycling' & that is unusual for a mare in this condition!!! He took a sample of her poop & had it checked for sand & also some checked for blood. She did not have any blood in her stool, but it did show a boat load of worms!!!! So he prescribed a 'power pac' wormer that you give for 5 days in a row!!! We were all worried, was it so harsh that it would give her ulcers???? Dr. Gray said that actually it is called the poorman's ulcer guard, as it is full of the ulcer guard & is way cheaper than buying the ulcer guard stuff itself!!!
Happy to report that, Sessie is feeling much better, even after one dose!!! Steve said she was talkin' & walkin' all around him on Thursday morning! Yeah! At the Vets, Sessie was in this outdoor stall for awhile & let me tell ya! She did NOT LIKE that at ALL! She started to weave!!! Poor baby Girl!
Last night Safe Haven had an x-tra meeting for our up coming Play Day Fundraiser, & Holly reported, (she works @ the Vets) that some of the blood work had come back. She said that it showed Sessie having a WEAK positive for Strep! So far they have ruled out, pigeon fever, & strangles!!!! that's good! & we are still waiting for the cogins test results. Will keep you all posted on the total results of the blood work, as the results come in!
Bye for now,
Linda C.
